at the Institute for Medical Informatics and Biometry
The position is to be filled as soon as possible on a full-time or part-time basis for a fixed term of 36 months. Remuneration is based on the classification provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federal States (TV-L); placement in pay group E13 is possible, subject to the fulfillment of personal requirements.
The Institute for Medical Informatics and Biometry (IMB) is part of the Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine at TU Dresden. The institute’s research focuses on medical biometrics, bioinformatics, systems biology/medicine, including mathematical modelling, as well as medical informatics. In addition to these scientific activities, the IMB offers various services (e.g., consulting and education programs in the field of medical data science) for faculty and students at the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital.
The position is part of the interdisciplinary research project “Virtual niche: Computational modelling and simulation of spatio-temporal dynamics of hematopoietic stem cells in their local microenvironment” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The core objective of the project is the development and application of a mathematical model that describes the spatio-temporal organization of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in their local growth environment within the bone marrow. The goal of gaining a better understanding of the underlying processes is of central importance both for open questions in basic stem cell biology and for future medical applications.
Your responsibilities:- Development of mathematical models to describe cellular dynamics
- Implementation of the models in a suitable programming environment
- Simulation of cellular dynamics within complex 3D structures
- Application of the computer model as a virtual bridge between in vitro and in vivo studies
- Systemic analysis and interpretation of experimental data in the context of complex biological interactions
- Close interdisciplinary collaboration with experimental teams at TU Dresden and external partner laboratories
- University degree (M.Sc., Diplom, or equivalent) in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering (with biological/biotechnological focus) or a related field
- Very good or excellent academic record
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary work, particularly in the application of mathematical and computational methods in biology and medicine
- Solid programming experience (e.g. in the statistical software R or Python)
- Knowledge of (stem) cell biology and experience in mathematical modelling are advantageous
- Reliability, creativity, flexibility, and the ability to work well in a team
- A cooperative, self-motivated, and goal-oriented work style
- Very good English skills
