Optimal control of heating systems is the subject of numerous current research projects in the field of building energy systems. In the context of the energy transition, efficient heating strategies pose a major challenge for the resilient heat supply of private households and industrial facilities.

As a partner of industry, Fraunhofer IIS/EAS, with approximately 110 employees at its Dresden location, develops key technologies for adaptive systems and offers innovative technologies and robust solutions.

What you do with us

• Training of control models usingmachine learning (reinforcement learning)
• Transfer of resulting policies from the simulation to thereal building management system (Sim2Real Transfer)
• Investigation ofdeviationsin system behavior insimulationanda real test bench
• Connection to existing control interfaces and development of solutions fordata acquisitionanddisplay
• Adaptation of the simulation and implementation of methods toincrease therobustness of the Sim2Real transfer

What you bring with you

• You are studyinginformation systems engineering, electrical engineering, renewable energy systems, mechatronicsor a comparable course of study
• You are interested inbuilding energy systemsand ideally already have experience with the simulation softwareModelica
• You are interested inphysical applicationsof machine learning and ideally have basic knowledge ofreinforcement learningand popular frameworks (PyTorch, JAX)
• You enjoy workingindependentlyand have initial experience in thePython programming languageas well as basic knowledge of software development and documentation
